Show Notes

Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) experience the same mental health challenges as everyone else. But seeing through the "disguise" of disability to identify mental health conditions or trauma requires not just patience, but a sensitivity to the role that trauma plays in the lives of children and adults with IDD. Dr. Karyn Harvey, who has decades of experience working with adults with IDD, gives her perspective on what it would mean for both caregivers and the system as a whole to be more "trauma-informed."
